A scribe who learned the craft at the table
If you were to ask my mother about my writing journey, she would say, "We didn't teach you to read or write. You just knew."
She is wrong. In fact, I remember a time in preschool when I asked a teacher for help writing my name because I couldn't get any further than the "B." However, stories have been a part of my life since the moment I could string words together. I read every book I was given cover to cover until I could recite them from heart. I typed out stories on my mom's old laptop while she worked in her home office. I slept with books. I was so writerly, I even started planning sequels to stories I hadn't finished writing.

Feather led me down the street to the survey team's headquarters. Or, more accurately, I hobbled after them as they buzzed here and there between their favorite places in town. The library, the raised gardens, the only cafe café that still had decent coffee.
